We should probably stop pretending to care about diversity, inclusion, and "equality" when things like citizenship, gender, and even religion matter in our hiring processes... 🤥
I am wondering why a Danish shoe manufacturer (not even a sensitive domain like space or military) should consider the citizenship of a candidate for a "Technology Solution Architect" role.
From my experience in the past ~7 years, these things used to be common only among small startups, but these days, even large corporations and big brands openly ask such questions with no hesitation...
I still remember the times I was asked in a few interviews in this country (Denmark) about what my religion is, just because I come from Iran, and they wanted to make sure I am NOT a Muslim! Or my Danish colleague who kept telling me that I am not "as white as him" so that I am different! Or the one time that my contract was ended by the CTO of a startup during my probation period just because I reported my Danish colleague to HR, who one day during the lunchtime told me in the face that all people from the Middle East (knowing that I am from Iran) are low IQ stupids who have caused all problems in Europe, and we should all go back to our sh*tty countries! The CTO simply said: "I need that guy, so if he doesn't like you for whatever reason and you don't like his comments, you should leave now!"
& the list goes on and on...
